James Bond takes a bullet in the explosive new Skyfall trailer

JAMES Bond is shot 'dead' in the explosive new trailer for Skyfall.

The action-packed clip shows British actor Daniel Craig stepping into the pristine shoes of 007 for a third time as he battles against an attack on his beloved MI6.

It opens with Judi Dench's M writing an obituary for Bond, before her past comes back to haunt her when it's revealed she has lost an all-important hard drive containing details of undercover agents worldwide.

We then see her arranging to take down Bond in an unexpected turn, calling her relationship with him into question.

The shocking scene is quickly followed by an explosion at MI6 headquarters which sends the agency into turmoil.

But, of course, it's not long before our hero returns, creeping up on M in the dark.

Villain ... Javier Bardem as James Bond's nemesis Raoul Silva

Later on, Bond gets fully equipped with all of the hi-tech weaponry and gadgets you could dream of - including a palm-print coded gun - before coming face-to-face with Javier Bardem's villainous alter-ego Raoul Silva.

Bardem's character is said to provide a new take on James Bond's nemesis Blofeld.

In one poignant moment, Bond tells Silva: "Everybody needs a hobby".

When the villain replies: "So what's yours?" the secret agent coolly answers: "Resurrection".

From then on it's a non-stop display of explosive scenes that feature Craig smashing through any obstacle that gets in his way, regardless of the consequences.

With buildings blowing up, tube trains crashing through walls, seduction, deceit, plenty of shooting and even a cheeky wink from everybody's favourite special agent, fans will be left itching to see director Sam Mendes' movie.

DANIEL Craig returns as James Bond in highly-anticipated installment of spy franchise

No Bond teaser would be complete without some steamy female action, and this is no exception.

The suave hero is seen indulging in a shower-based passionate clinch with latest Bond girl Bérénice Marlohe, who plays Sévérine.

Other key characters featured in the trailer include Ralph Fiennes as Mallory, Naomie Harris as Eve, and Ben Whishaw as a fresh-faced Q.

Skyfall is in cinemas from October 26.

The release of the film will coincide with the 50th anniversary of the first ever Bond movie, Dr No, which debuted in 1962.

Incomes plunge to a 9year low

DISPOSABLE incomes have dropped to their lowest level since 2003, it emerged yesterday.

Take-home pay fell one per cent in the first quarter of 2012 to an average £273 a week, said the Office for National Statistics. It blamed high prices and sluggish growth in wages.

Shadow Treasury Minister Chris Leslie said: “These figures show the harsh squeeze facing families and pensioners.

“Millions of people on middle and low incomes are paying more because of the rise in VAT and cuts in tax credits.”

British taxpayers paid a record £19.2BILLION to the EU

BRITISH taxpayers paid a record £19.2BILLION to the EU last year — £53million every day.

Official stats reveal our payments to Brussels rose by around £1.7billion in the last two years.

We get £8.4billion back in subsidies, but our net contribution in 2011 was still a record £10.8billion — up from £6.8billion in 2009. The rise was fuelled by the last Labour Government’s decision to sacrifice a big chunk of our EU rebate.

UKIP leader Nigel Farage called the rise “astonishing”, adding: "We know the costs of Europe. What are the benefits?”

Villa given all-clear to resume full training

Villa given all-clear to resume full training

Barcelona and Spain striker David Villa has been given the all-clear to resume full training, although he is still some way short of reaching full match fitness, his club announced on Tuesday.

"He's doing very well medically, but he's not in optimal physical condition," said the club's doctors Ramon Cugat and Ricard Pruna in a statement on Barcelona's official website.

Villa, the Spanish national team's all-time leading goalscorer, fractured his tibia in the semi-finals of the Club World Cup in Japan in December last year, missing the second half of the season and Spain's triumphant Euro 2012 campaign as a result.

Barca captain Carles Puyol, who also missed the European Championship with a knee injury, has been given the green light to play again and could feature in the Catalan club's pre-season friendly against Paris Saint-Germain in the French capital on Saturday.

Villa will not feature in that game, however.

"One thing is getting the medical all clear and another is to be physically ready to play," added the doctors' statement.

Pruna explained: "He wasn't given clearance to play, he's training normally with his teammates but he still has work to do before he plays."

The Spanish season begins on the weekend of August 18-19, with Barcelona kicking off with a home fixture against Real Sociedad.

FA chief promises tough action

FA chief promises tough action

Football Association chairman David Bernstein has warned of the "tough" consequences of poor behaviour.

Bernstein's comments came barely 24 hours after the FA had charged Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand over his apparent endorsement of the term "choc-ice" on Twitter. His former England central defensive partner John Terry is also preparing to contest a charge of using insulting language to Ferdinand's brother Anton.

Speaking at Wembley at a gathering of invited guests from FIFA and anti-racism body Kick it Out, aimed at ending all forms of discrimination in the game, Bernstein said: "We must continue to be tough as a regulatory body on sanctioning and disciplining inappropriate behaviour."

He added: "Wherever possible we must bring incidents of discriminatory abuse to charge and all participants must know the consequences of their actions.

"This goes for the Twittersphere as much as on the pitch, in the stands and in the recruitment processes across football."

Lerner committed to Villa - Faulkner

Lerner committed to Villa - Faulkner

Aston Villa owner Randy Lerner remains 100% committed to the club after deciding to sell Cleveland Browns, chief executive Paul Faulkner has said.

Lerner has opted to sell the NFL franchise, prompting some speculation that he could follow the same path with Villa whom he bought six years ago. But Faulkner is adamant that is not the case and Lerner has already spent nearly £10million on new signings for manager Paul Lambert this summer.

Faulkner told the Express and Star: "The Browns situation means absolutely nothing with regard to Aston Villa - neither good nor bad. The big point that people sometimes forget is that he inherited Cleveland Browns. He bought Aston Villa. Any rumours that Randy could be thinking about getting out or losing interest is nonsense."

Everton confirm Pienaar deal

Everton have confirmed the permanent return of Steven Pienaar from Tottenham for £4.5million on a four-year deal.

The South Africa international spent the second half of last season on loan at Goodison Park after failing to impress under then-Spurs boss Harry Redknapp.

He only signed for Tottenham last year for a reported £3million fee after spending four years, the first of which was on loan from Borussia Dortmund, with Everton.

Japan into Olympic womens football quarters

Japan into Olympic womens football quarters

World champions Japan advanced into the quarter-finals of the Olympic women's football tournament after a goalless draw with South Africa in Cardiff on Tuesday.

Striker Kozue Ando and midfielder Asuna Tanaka wasted the best chances for Japan, who are now set for a last eight clash with Great Britain should the hosts beat Brazil later Tuesday.

For South Africa, the draw was their first point of the Games after they'd twice been well-beaten in their previous Group F matches.

Japan were on top from the start and Ando had two early chances as her shot was smothered by Thokozile Mndaweni, before heading wide following a cross by Karina Maruyama.

However, South Africa rallied and Portia Modise went close to opening the scoring with a long-range shot that skimmed over the crossbar.

Mana Ibwabuchi was off target early in the second half and Ando struck an effort across th face of the goal after more good approach play by Maruyama.

South Africa midfielder Gabisile Hlumbane was carried off on a stretcher after colliding with Mndaweni as the keeper came for a cross.

But South Africa continued to frustrate Japan, Tanaka headed over under pressure at the far post before Janine van Wyk's excellent block kept the match goalless.

Rangers owners change name

Rangers owners change name

Shareholders have voted in favour of Rangers owners Sevco Scotland Limited changing its name to The Rangers Football Club Limited.

An extraordinary general meeting of 'oldco' shareholders took place at Ibrox on Tuesday, where procedures were approved to enable the name change.

Charles Green's Sevco consortium completed the purchase of the business and assets of Rangers in June after the club was consigned to liquidation following failure to secure a Company Voluntary Arrangement in order to exit administration.

The Glasgow giants - who will play in the Irn-Bru Third Division this season - began a new chapter in the club's history on Sunday when they faced Brechin in the Ramsdens Cup in their first competitive outing since the change of ownership.

They were granted conditional Scottish Football Association membership on Friday night, which will be completed when the formal transfer of 'oldco' Rangers' Scottish Premier League share to Dundee takes place later this week.

Green told www.rangers.co.uk: "The process that took place today is the penultimate piece of the jigsaw that will see The Rangers Football Club move forward, with the transfer of SFA membership being the final piece.

"As every fan knows, Rangers is Rangers - it always has been and it always will be.

"The club still has its 140 years of history and we are now embarking on the next 140 years.

"We are back playing football and the board is focused on rebuilding this great club over the next few years.

"Our fans were fantastic on Sunday at Brechin and their support at Ibrox and away from home this season will be instrumental in helping the team achieve the success we all desire."
