Batman killer James Holmes claims his 13th victim

BATMAN madman James Holmes claimed his 13th victim yesterday when pregnant survivor Ashley Moser suffered a tragic miscarriage.

Ashley, who was just eight weeks’ pregnant at the time of Holmes' gun rampage on July 20, lost her baby while undergoing surgery yesterday morning.

The tragedy comes just 10 days after her six-year-old daughter Veronica Moser-Sullivan was also killed in the massacre at the Century 16 cinema in Aurora, Colorado.

The total number of victims is now 13, with 58 others wounded.

Ashley’s family released the news yesterday in a statement. It said: “Ashley Moser is recovering from an additional surgery she had this morning. Tragically, the extreme trauma she sustained also caused a miscarriage.

“We want to send a special thank you to the courageous HEROES of law enforcement, other first responders, paramedics, and doctors and nurses who have all gone beyond the call-of-duty in caring for our daughter, granddaughter and all of the other victims of this tragic event.

“Our sincere appreciation goes out to all of those who have been sending well-wishes, prayers and good thoughts to Ashley. Her lifetime of care will be a long road.”

Ashley, 25, is expected to be paralsyed as a result of her injuries.

Holmes, 24, is due to appear in court tomorrow, when he will be officially charged over the Dark Knight Rises shootings.

He was due to be charged with 12 counts of first-degree murder. It is unclear whether he could now face 13 counts.

Just days ago Ashley’s boyfriend and the father of her baby Jamison Toews revealed Ashley had seen a scan of her unborn child hours before Holmes opened fire.

Toews, Ashley’s boyfriend of two years, accompanied her to the ultrasound appointment and said they had been delighted to discover their baby was healthy.

He told a Colorado news station: “Everything was good."

But later that night, as they attended a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises with Ashley’s daughter Veronica, their worlds were turned upside down.

Ashley was shot twice in the throat and once in the stomach and rushed to hospital, while Veronica was tragically killed.

Recalling the July 20 massacre and the moment Ashley was shot, Jamison said: “Another bullet came and hit her right in the chest, right in front of me and she just fell right back down.”

Fighting back tears, the grief-stricken 28-year-old also described how he saw Veronica – Ashley’s six-year-old daughter with ex-husband Ian Sullivan – lying on the floor.

He said: “I saw what you never want to see and it was Veronica’s lifeless body lying there.”

Earlier this week, the Sun revealed how Ashley had taken her daughter on a secret date with Toews, to the late night Batman showing at the Century 16 cinema in Aurora, Colorado.

The film had only been on for 30 minutes when madman James Holmes opened fire.

Tragically Jamison, whose head was grazed by a bullet in the attack, had told the news station: “I think that maybe the baby could be her reason to live.”

Jamison also revealed that the due date for their baby’s birth had been the same day as Ashley’s late father’s birthday. David Moser died just two months before the cinema massacre.
