Olympic pool star Ye Shiwen in blast at dope jibe

A CHINESE girl of 16 last night denied suggestions of doping — after it emerged she swam faster than a male champion.

Ye Shiwen took gold in the 400m medley on Sunday in a world record time of 4m 28.43s.

In the last 50m of freestyle she was faster than 6ft 2ins American Ryan Lochte, 27 — who won the men’s event in the second-fastest time ever.

Shiwen beat her own time at last year’s World Championships by seven seconds. John Leonard of the World Swimming Coaches Association said yesterday: “We want to be very careful about calling it doping.

“Where someone could out-split one of the fastest male swimmers, that I think legitimately calls that swim into question.”

But Shiwen said: “My results come from hard work and training and I would never use banned drugs. The Chinese people have clean hands.”

£23k tout fined £435

A GERMAN ticket tout caught with nearly £24,000 worth of tickets has been fined just £435.

Wolfgang Menzel, 57, was spotted selling opening ceremony tickets outside the stadium on Friday for £1,100 each.

The mortgage broker told Stratford Magistrates Court he was trying to recoup cash after his friends pulled out.

Cops seized 51 tickets from Menzel, who admitted touting.
