PAULA RADCLIFFE admits her Olympic marathon dream may end in heartbreak.
Radcliffe, 38, is battling to be fit in time for next Sunday's event as tries to shake off a foot injury.
But the Team GB veteran has angrily denied claims that she has already admitted defeat.
Radcliffe tweeted: "It is not looking good but it is my heartbreaking news to break."
British Olympic Chef de Mission Andy Hunt added: "There is nothing to say she is out.
"Right now she is in the team."
The chances of Radcliffe making the marathon were rated 50-50 last week by UK Athletics head coach Charles van Commenee.
It is believed she will be given another few days to recover and a spokeswoman for UK Athletics said: "No decision has been taken on her fitness.
"The team are continuing to work with Paula and monitor her."
Radcliffe has suffered problems with osteoarthritis during her career and it flared up again earlier this month, leading to a trip to Germany for specialist treatment.
If she is not passed fit for the Games, it will continue a barren run for the athlete at the Olympics.
The nearest Radcliffe has been to winning a medal was a fourth-place finish in the 10,000m event at the Sydney Games in 2000.
