RIHANNA and Drake lead the charge at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, picking up five nominations apiece.
The chart-toppers – rumoured to have casually dated recently – will battle it out in the Video Of The Year category for We Found Love and Drake’s Take Care, which features Rihanna.
They’ll be competing with other contenders Gotye (Somebody That I Used To Know), Katy Perry (Wide Awake) and M.I.A. (Bad Girls).
Shockingly, Lady Gaga hasn’t been shortlisted for a single gong – even though her Marry The Night and You And I videos were eligible.
As well as Video Of The Year, Rihanna is also up for Best Female Video, Best Pop Video, Best Choreography and Best Visual Effects, while Drake will be hoping to bag Best Hip-Hop Video, Best Male Video, Best Art Direction and Best Cinematography.
The rapper will be going up against his rival Chris Brown for the Best Male Video prize.
The warring duo came to blows in a violent club melee in New York last month, leaving singer Brown with a bloody gash on his chin.
Trouble was reportedly flared after Drake’s entourage taunted Brown with jibes about the hip-hop star’s relationship with the R&B singer’s ex-girlfriend Rihanna.
Katy Perry is close behind Rihanna and Drake, scooping four nods, while Beyonce, Coldplay, Frank Ocean and M.I.A. have three shots at taking home gold.
Brit boybands One Direction and The Wanted will fight it out with Fun – who have had a monster hit with We Are Young – Frank Ocean and Carly Rae Jepsen for the title of Best New Artist.
Even if they lose out, One Direction will play a vital role on the night – they’re set to perform at the Los Angeles event, joining Alicia Keys on the bill with more live acts to be announced.
The ceremony takes place at the Staples Center on September 6.
