TWO identical twins famous for their desperate anorexia battle have been killed in a house fire.
Tragic Clare and Rachel Wallmeyer, 42, died after the blaze ripped through their home yesterday in Geelong, near Melbourne, Australia.
One died from severe burns en route to hospital while the other perished in the flames.
The sisters’ dreadful end came after anorexia transformed them into living skeletons.
Their deaths are believed to have been accidental, according to detectives who said initial checks did not reveal anything suspicious.
The pair repeatedly encountered social workers and the police throughout their turbulent lives.
At the height of their anorexia, their weight dropped to little more than FOUR STONE and they had the bone structure of elderly women aged between 70 and 100.
The twins said their typical daily diet consisted of a piece of watermelon, Diet Coke, coffee and at least 20 laxatives.
They had believed it would only be a matter of time before they died together after never having been in love or worked.
Rachel had been charged with the attempted murder of Clare after cops claimed they witnessed Rachel throttling her sister.
The authorities considered jailing them in a bid to stop the women starving themselves to death and help them “turn their lives around”.
Clare was also jailed for a series of thefts when magistrate Ian von Einem said he had to imprison her to stop her from self-destructing.
Rachel had been arrested for driving high on drugs and was accused of pushing a victim on to train tracks, for which she received a 21-month suspended jail sentence.
The compulsive long-distance runners described themselves as perfectionists in biomedical science and physical education.
