A HIT-run victim aged two and his schoolgirl sister were fighting for life last night after being left for dead crossing a road.
Little Rayhan Saleem and ten-year-old Sabah were holding hands when a maniac ploughed into them.
A cousin watched in horror as the driver callously SLOWED to have a look — then ZOOMED off.
Last night a relative demanded as the victims’ parents held a bedside vigil in hospital: “What kind of person leaves two children lying there bleeding in the road?”
Uncle Aroon Rafique, 23, said: “The whole family is in shock. It’s devastating.”
The car is believed to be a silver or grey Astra from between 1998 and 2005. If you can help, ring the inquiry team on 101 or CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111
The youngsters — on an errand to buy onions for their mum — were mown down at a speed bump they thought would slow drivers down near their Leeds home.
The cousin had gone first as Sabah held back to take charge of her little brother.
She took the brunt of the impact as the two were hurled to opposite sides of the 30mph road — leaving her in a coma.
A boy of 12 who saw Saturday’s horror estimated the silver Vauxhall Astra’s speed at 50mph. Fellow witness Ankush Kumar-Singh, 23, said: “I heard screeching brakes then saw the car drive off at a great speed.”
Sabah was excited as dad Mohammed, 37, and mum Tazeem, 32, prepared a party to celebrate her having finished reading the Koran.
But the uncle stressed: “She’s an intelligent girl who would not make hasty decisions.” Cops are scouring CCTV.
