TORY high-flyer Louise Mensch dramatically quit politics yesterday to spend more time with her family.
The former chick-lit author, 41, is moving to New York with her three kids to live with her husband Peter — the manager of rock bands Metallica and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
In an emotional resignation letter to the PM, she said she had been “struggling for some time to find the best outcome for my family life and have decided, in order to keep us together, to move to New York”.
The MP for Corby and East Northants also revealed in her letter to Mr Cameron that he had already given her special permission to work in her constituency on Thursdays and Fridays so she could spend more time with her kids.
She added: “It is only through your personal intervention, delivered without fanfare, that I’ve been able to manage my duties for this long. Unfortunately it’s not proved to be enough.”
In his reply, the PM revealed he had been planning to appoint Mrs Mensch as a Minister. He said he had hoped to see her serve “for longer and at a more senior level”. The Tories are now facing a likely by-election defeat in November.
The Conservative, who has admitted taking hard drugs in her youth, ended Labour’s 13-year rule in 2010 with a majority of just 1,895.
