A MAN had to be helped out of a tree by firefighters after getting stuck while trying to rescue his pet parrot.
The 32-year-old had scaled the tree, in Dundry, North Somerset but after climbing 50ft he found himself unable get down - and firefighters had to be called.
Avon Fire and Rescue Service were able to lower him to the ground, along with the precious parrot.
A fire service spokesman said: “The man had climbed the tree to recover a pet parrot, but was then unable to make his way back to the ground.
“The tree was overhanging live power lines, so firefighters had the supply isolated before using an extendable ladder on the aerial appliance to reach the man and parrot.
“Both were safely rescued from the tree by the firefighters before being lowered to the ground.
“The man and the parrot are not believed to have suffered any injuries as a result of the incident.”
The fire service added that anyone with concerns for an animal should contact the RSPCA rather than attempting a rescue themselves.
