Snapping stars! When raging A-list celebrities kick off

KRISTEN Stewart isn’t the first celebrity who's snapped.

She can take heart in the knowledge that other stars have allowed their tempers to boil over far more spectacularly in recent years.

Feeling the strain of the love cheat’s split with Robert Pattinson, Kristen let rip at a minder with a finger-wagging rant yesterday.

But she can always look to the likes of Mel Gibson, Christian Bale and Chris Brown and realise her tantrum was mild in comparison.

Here’s our rundown of raging celebs.

Mel Fire

Mel Gibson

Mad to the Max ... Mel Gibson

Hollywood star Mel Gibson has become better known for his storming temper and controversial opinions than his movies in recent years.

The staunch Catholic’s been accused of homophobia, racism, sexism and anti-Semitism, most infamously when he was arrested for drink-driving in 2006.

He allegedly told the Jewish officer who booked him: “F****** Jews... the Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world.”

Gibson later apologised, branding his behaviour “despicable”.

However, he was headline news again for all the wrong reasons in 2010 when a series of shocking recordings of telephone conversations between Gibson and ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva surfaced.

During one furious rant, the actor growled at the mother of his young daughter Lucia : “You look like a f****** b**ch in heat, and if you get raped by a pack of n*****, it will be your fault.”

Ballistic Bale

Christian Bale

Volatile ... Christian Bale

He may be picking up acclaim for his role in The Dark Knight Rises at present, but it was all about Christian Bale's dark temper rising on a movie set in 2008.

The incident kicked off when director of photography Shane Hulburt disturbed a scene in Terminator Salvation, starring Bale and Bryce Dallas Howard, by walking onto the set.

It was the second time Hulburt had moved around while the cameras were rolling, prompting Bale to lose the plot.

In a foul-mouthed tirade, Bale spat at the film-maker: “For f*** sake, man. You’re amateur. You do it one more f****** time and I ain't walking on this set if you're still hired. I'm f****** serious.”

The angry ear-bashing was taped and leaked online weeks prior to the release of Terminator Salvation.

Bale apologised for the attack, calling himself a “punk” for going off on one at Hulburt.

Fisticuffs Crowe

Russell Crowe

He's no Cinderella, man ... Russell Crowe

Australian actor Russell Crowe has never been one to hold back when he’s riled.

In 1999, he was involved in a brutal scuffle in his native land that was caught on CCTV cameras.

For years later, Crowe lost it with a BBC producer after his appearance at the 2002 BAFTAs in London was cut short.

Later that year he was allegedly involved in a brawl inside a trendy Japanese in London that was broken up by Ross Kemp.

In 2005, he was charged with assault after flinging a telephone at a hotel employee who refused to assist him.

He settled the case out of court after pleading no contest and has kept his temper in check for the most part since.

Brutal Brown

Chris Brown

Sickening attack ... Chris Brown and, right, Rihanna following their bust-up

R&B star Chris Brown’s career and reputation took a nosedive in 2009 when he brutally attacked then-girlfriend Rihanna during a bust-up in his car.

Rihanna was left with a bloodied face and had to be treated in hospital after their row escalated into physical violence.

In June of that year, Brown pleaded guilty and accepted a plea deal of community labour, five years' formal probation and domestic violence counselling.

Speaking about his actions on TV, the singer insisted: “I'm in shock, because, first of all, that's not who I am as a person, and that's not who I promise I want to be.”

In June 2010, Brown was quizzed about the incident on Good Morning America.

He was reportedly so furious at the line of questioning that he flipped in his dressing room and smashed a window overlooking Times Square.

Smarting Alec

Alec Baldwin

Daughter dig ... Alec Baldwin

Alec Baldwin sparked uproar in 2007 when he left a vicious voicemail on his then-11-year-old daughter’s phone.

In the message - which found its way into cyberspace – the actor called Ireland a “rude, thoughtless little pig”.

He ranted: “You don't have the brains or the decency as a human being.”

The 30 Rock star later apologised for his stinging attack, blaming his anger on the stress of his custody fight with Ireland’s mum Kim Basinger.

He said in a statement: "I have a normal relationship with my daughter.

"I'm sorry, as everyone who knows me is aware, for losing my temper with my child."

In December last year, Baldwin was removed from an American Airlines flight before take-off when he refused to stop playing a word game on his phone.

Crackers Campbell

Naomi Campbell

World's least appealing employer ... Naomi Campbell

British model Naomi Campbell has more lowlights in her private life than in her hair.

In the space of a decade, from 1998 to 2008, Campbell was accused ten times of violence towards employees, associates and, in one case, police officers.

Among the alleged victims were a housekeeper who claimed she’d been slapped, kicked and scratched by the feisty catwalk queen, and an assistant who said she’d been held hostage by Campbell and had a phone thrown at her.

She pleaded guilty in New York to attacking another housekeeper in 2007 and, in 2008, held her hands up to charges she spat at two police officers during a row about her lost luggage at Heathrow Airport.

In 2010, Campbell revealed she’d turned to Kabbalah to help calm her legendary temper.

Wild West

Kanye West

Taking life way too seriously ... Kanye West

Rapper Kanye West is adamant there’s a method behind his madness, saying: “One day people will understand everything I ever did.”

Try telling that to Taylor Swift.

West infamously ruined her big win at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards when he stormed the stage during her speech, remonstrating that his pal Beyonce should have won.

He’s also been criticised for accusing former US president George W Bush of being racist and rushed onstage at the MTV Europe Music Awards when he failed to win a prize in 2006.

Speaking about his notoriety last year, he said: “I walk through the hotel and I walk down the street, and people look at me like I'm f****** insane, like I'm Hitler.”

Cage Rage

Nicolas Cage

Riled in Romania ... Nicolas Cage

rex

Nicolas Cage has become much-loved for his psychotic rants onscreen.

However, it was a case of life imitating art when he flipped his lid outside a nightclub in Bucharest, Romania, in December 2010.

Mobile phone footage captured the actor – who was shooting the Ghost Rider sequel in the city – screaming at one man and two women who were appearing to calm him down.

Cage is heard ranting: “You wanna kill me? Go for it brothers.

“I’ll f****** die because of honour. I’ll f****** die right now.

“You wanna f****** kick me in the head? Go for it.”

It’s still unclear what triggered Cage’s verbal rampage and the actor has never addressed the incident in interviews.
