BLOODTHIRSTY Taliban militants beheaded 17 partygoers listening to music and dancing.
The bodies of 15 men and two women were found at a house in Musa Qala district, southern Helmand, where a party was held last night.
Strict Taliban fundamentalists have tried to stop men and women meeting socially unless they are related.
Daoud Ahmadi, spokesman for the provincial governor, said: "I can confirm that this is the work of the Taliban.
"Two women and 15 men were beheaded. They were partying with music in an area under the control of the Taliban."
He said it was not clear if the victims were shot dead before being decapitated.
It was a bloody day in the country with 10 Afghan soldiers killed in an insurgent attack.
Two US soldiers were also gunned down in a rogue attack by a member of the Afghan National Army.
