LET no one who opposes our presence in Afghanistan be in any further doubt about the medieval savagery of the psychopaths who could win back control once we leave.
The latest atrocity there has been a timely and stark reminder of the murderous barbarity of the Taliban.
As partygoers danced and played music, gunmen burst in and hacked the heads off 17 men and women for flouting their fascist moral code.
Even in a country which has witnessed so much horror this slaughter is beyond comprehension.
The Taliban say they’ve checked, and it wasn’t them. Who was it then? Noise abatement officers?
Under the Taliban, between 1996 and 2001, Afghanistan was dragged back to the Dark Ages.
Music and film was outlawed, girls banned from any form of education. Women were forced to wear burkas, could not go out without a male escort and were executed for violating the Taliban’s twisted laws.
Our Boys are in Afghanistan to keep us safe by preventing al-Qaeda from re-establishing a base there.
But let us not forget the horror that will befall ordinary Afghans if our forces leave too soon — and their own army fails to prevent the Taliban from seizing back control.
Get tough
THE council tax discount is a laudable perk which crooks and liars have not been slow to exploit.
In six years they have ripped off Britain to the tune of £290million.
When you factor in the sums incompetently lost by councils relating to council tax benefit the total tops £1billion.
So it makes perfect sense for the Coalition to force the same councils who set and collect the tax to take over running the benefit themselves, rather than relying on the Treasury to fund it.
Only when it hurts THEIR finances will they get serious about the mountain of public money being stolen or wasted.
