A FORMER council flat has gone on sale — priced at almost £1MILLION.
The buyer will boast neighbours including pop queen Madonna and Aussie supermodel Elle Macpherson.
Situated in a 1960s block of six, the ground floor property in Kensington, West London, is thought to be the most expensive ex-local authority flat ever.
It is a world away from Stoke — where the council is selling homes for just £1 in an attempt to revive the ailing area.
The five-bedroom home — which is being marketed for £949,950 — has three bathrooms, a reception room, a kitchen and a communal garden. It went on sale last week and has already had a series of viewings.
The current owner bought it for almost half the price — £489,000 — in 2006. Cleaner Stephen Williams, 52, who has rented his nearby flat from the council for the past 22 years, said: “It’s a disgrace. I’ve lived here for a long time and always wanted to buy my flat, but could never afford it.
“Mine is a two-bedroom and about eight years ago a guy nearly bought it for £200,000.”
