Aussie sports minister rows Eton Dorney as Olympic bet forfeit

SPORTS minister Hugh Robertson cheers his Australian counterpart after she was forced to carry out an embarrassing forfeit for losing their Olympic bet.

Kate Lundy had wagered that the Aussie team would bring home more medals than Britain after the London 2012 Games.

But Team GB comfortable beat the boys and girls from Down Under by collecting 65 medals, including 29 gold, compared to Australia’s 35 with seven gold.

As part of her forfeit, Ms Lundy donned a British team kit and rowed 1,000 metres on the Eton Dorney lake.

Crowds cheered Lundy — a former rower — as she took to the water in a single scull to complete her task.

Afterwards she was greeted by Mr Robertson who poured champagne for her. The pair then shook hands and toasted their bet.

Had Britain lost out, Mr Robertson would have had to wear an Australian field hockey uniform and dribble a ball around the country’s official London residence Australia House.
