Olympic equestrian: Team GB grab silver

BRITAIN’S equestrian stars put on a right Royal show to claim team eventing silver.

Zara Phillips, William Fox-Pitt, Mary King, Nicola Wilson and Tina Cook finished in the medals after today’s showjumping finale.

The spectators at Greenwich Park fell silent as Zara clattered into a fence on her round.

But Team GB — who started the day in second — recovered and Cook’s brilliant round secured silver.

It was Germany who landed gold in front of a packed crowd — including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry — while New Zealand took the bronze.

British hero Cook, who rode Miners Frolic, will compete in the individual event later today.

She will start in fourth while King will go from third — and they are both serious medal prospects.

Cook said: “Miners Frolic has jumped a clear round and we have got a team silver, but I have got to do better and do another clear in the individual competition.

“It will not be difficult to refocus for the individual competition — we are very much on the button.

“But the team silver is brilliant for our sport.”
