Behind the scenes at secret Stone Roses concert at Adidas Underground with Olympic gold medallists Bradley Wiggins and Jessica Ennis

THREE of Team GB’s gold medallists proved they were world champion party animals at a secret Stone Roses gig.

Frontman Ian Brown crowned Bradley Wiggins and Jessica Ennis the “real King and Queen of England” in front of a crowd packed with rock royalty.

Double Olympic rowing champ Pete Reed joined Jess and Wiggo as guests of honour at the intimate show for Adidas. The golden trio mingled with a who’s who of music legends including Led Zeppelin rocker Jimmy Page, Modfather Paul Weller, Primal Scream frontman Bobby Gillespie, pop star Boy George and The Clash punk icon Mick Jones.

All three athletes are used to podiums — so they didn’t mind climbing on to another one at the Adidas Underground in Shoreditch, East London, so they could have the best view in the house.

Wiggo even managed to out-mod his hero Weller in a razor-sharp blue suit — and his perfectly coiffured sideburns were a huge hit with Example.

The rapper made a beeline for the cycling champ and gave his hairy chops a quick stroke.

Heptathlon hero Jess said she was still knackered after her superhuman efforts in the Olympic Stadium — but she agreed to go along because her fiancé Andy Hill is a big Roses fan.

Any tiredness was soon forgotten as she got stuck into the red wine from the starting gun.

Ian, Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield, Alan ‘Reni’ Wren and John Squire did not make it to the stage until just before midnight because they had been chatting to the Team GB stars.

But they were well worth the wait. Fools Gold met Olympic gold as the Madchester legends powered through their classics.

Among the star-studded audience were actors John Simm, Rupert Grint, Vicky McClure, Jaime Winstone and Alfie Allen, model Daisy Lowe, magician Dynamo and musicians Mr Hudson, Miles Kane, Goldie and Maverick Sabre.

Everyone was locked in from the I Wanna Be Adored start to the I Am The Resurrection finish.

But for once the most adored people in the room weren’t on stage — that honour went to our Olympians.

HEPTATHLETE sensation Jessica Ennis was mobbed by awestruck celebs at the gig.

Actor John Simm, wife Kate Macgowan and rapper Example queued for a glimpse of her Olympic gold medal, while Goldie couldn’t believe how well it matched his gnashers.

ACTRESS Jaime Winstone squealed with delight when she met Jessica. She said: “I love Jess. She’s an icon and so beautiful.” Rapper Wretch 32, who sampled the Stone Roses’ Fools Gold on his track Unorthodox, said: “So proud of Jess.”

Model Daisy Lowe was also there, sadly without on-off Doctor Who lover Matt Smith. The Time Lord would surely have appreciated Jess’ out-of-this-world performance.

AFTER setting her sights on that incredible gold for Team GB, Jessica showed she was still in a patriotic mood backstage. And these Union Jack specs would have come in handy the morning after the gig — as Jessica spent the night downing red wine before moving on to cocktails.

SHARP-SUITED cycling superstar Bradley Wiggins buddied up to his Modfather hero Paul Weller backstage — and wouldn’t let go.

The pair spent ages chatting about music, clothes and sideburns.

Later Stone Roses frontman Ian Brown — who boasts an impressive set of sideys himself — cornered the Olympic gold medallist and Tour de France winner.

Turned into a fine old ’Burns Night by all accounts...
